      <image:title>About Us - More About Us</image:title>
<image:caption>Family owned by brothers Faris and Zane Haykal, The Tutors was founded in February of 2017 to help students excel academically. We are a local tutoring agency offering academic assistance in all standard subject areas to students from private and public schools across the Memphis area. On any given day in our East Memphis office, you will find our dedicated team of knowledgeable tutors working with students at every level of learning. We meet students where they are, address their challenges and obstacles, and mentor them on their academic journey. More than simply teaching course material, our focus is on developing good learning habits. We believe that, with the right process and work ethic in place, the results will follow.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I graduated from Memphis University School as valedictorian and then attended Harvard University, where I got my degree in English and American Literature and Language. My brother Zane and I have been tutoring full-time for eight years, and we love our job. As soon as I started working with students and their families one-on-one, something clicked and knew I had found my passion. Previously, I spent several years doing research in the mental health field, working with patients who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. Through that experience I learned a technique called motivational interviewing, which I have tried to apply to education. Simply put, it means being empathetic, listening to students, and helping them find their own motivation, whether that means applying to Ivy League colleges or just getting their parents off their backs. My interests outside of work and academics include all things sports (especially Tigers, Grizzlies, and my various fantasy teams), movies, TV, and, yes, video games (sorry parents). As a member of the 2019 MUS alumni basketball C-league champions, I spent half the season on the bench with a bum hamstring but led the league in moral support. Subjects I tutor include English (all levels), History/Social Studies (all levels), Math (Pre-Algebra through Calculus), Science (Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry), and Foreign Language (Latin I and French). I also tutor the ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE, GRE, GMAT, and LSAT.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I didn’t set out to be a tutor. After college, I was whiling away my time delivering flowers and setting up weddings for a local florist. One afternoon, the primary delivery person was out sick, and I was asked to take flowers to a brand new tutoring company around the corner. When I dropped off the arrangement, I also asked for a job, thinking tutoring might be a better fit for me than my minimum-wage, manual labor job. A couple of weeks later, I was the assistant manager of a new tutoring company. After a year, I was a manager and co-owner. Now, seven years after that fateful day, I am the owner of The Tutors along with my brother Faris, and I couldn’t be happier. It didn’t take me long to realize that I had a knack for tutoring. I love working with students, and I’ve found that I can communicate with kids and parents in a way that bridges gaps between them. My philosophy as a tutor is based on conversation, motivation, and positive reinforcement. I am a graduate of Memphis University School (2006) where I was the Student Council President. I attended Rollins College and the University of Memphis (2010), where I majored in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and minored in History. I enjoy playing basketball, watching basketball, and talking about basketball. I am way too proud of being the captain of the defending C-League champions in the MUS Alumni League. Other hobbies include movies, TV, reading, music, and any pop culture I can get my hands on. Subjects I tutor include English (all), Math through Calculus, History (all), Government, French, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Religion. I also tutor the ACT, SAT, PSAT, ISEE, GRE, Praxis, and LSAT.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I graduated from Memphis University School in 2022 and am currently pursuing a B.S. in Software Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering at Chapman University in Orange, California. While at MUS, I wrote for my school’s newspaper and spent four years on the wrestling team. In California, I spend most of my time outdoors, whether I’m biking on the beach or hiking out in the desert in Joshua Tree. Back in Memphis I can be found running at Shelby Farms or rock-climbing at High Point Fitness. I also enjoy reading, and I can be occasionally convinced to play a video game with my friends. At Chapman, I work for my university’s Writing Center and our Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC). My experience working for these organizations has allowed me to develop the necessary communication skills for a teaching job. Given my STEM background, I understand how it feels to be lost in class. These feelings are normal, and half of the battle of tutoring is just getting the point across that my student is smarter than they think they are - and I try to drive that point home in every session. I specialize in ACT/SAT tutoring as well as math courses up to Calculus II (AP Calc BC). I am also available for remote tutoring throughout the academic year. I look forward to working with you!</image:caption>

<image:caption>I graduated from Saint Agnes Academy in 2022 as valedictorian with special departmental honors in Spanish, French, and English. Currently, I am studying Spanish, French, and Comparative Literature at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. (No, embarrassingly, I do not play golf). I was recently awarded the undergraduate Colmenaros Prize this past year for excellence in Spanish studies. Beyond my time in the classroom, living in the UK has allowed me to travel throughout Europe and Northern Africa with my college friends. Therefore, I have had plenty of opportunities to put my language skills to use, whether it be navigating through the Madrid underground, attempting to bargain at Moroccan street markets, or explaining to our neighbors in Paris that we were locked out of our Airbnb. Back in Memphis, I started working at The Tutors in 2023 with a particular focus in helping language students maintain their studies over the summer. I feel that I am well-equipped to teach Spanish and French because I learned them both from zero. I grew up in an English-speaking household and had to find ways on my own to immerse myself in the languages, whether it be through TV shows or music in the car. In high school, I could justify binging Netflix or racking up screen time hours to my parents because it was for entirely educational purposes, obviously. I perhaps have the most odd Spotify Wrapped playlists, ranging from country to Spanish trap, with the occasional Essentially, no matter what your interest may be, I likely have a piece of cultural media to extend the learning past the classroom (ie I have great Netflix recs).</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hello, I'm Evrada, a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Memphis. Originally from Cameroon, I completed my basic and part of my higher education in a bilingual environment, mastering both English and French. My academic journey culminated in achieving national merit in the 2020 GCE A-Level exams. This strong foundation gives me confidence in my ability to effectively tutor Mathematics, Science, and French. Beyond academics, I love relaxing at home, reading webtoons and shopping. I also love getting to know people and pride myself in being an attentive and supportive listener. My teaching approach usually makes use of visuals and logical reasoning to simplify difficult concepts, but I look forward to tweaking these teaching aids to cater to each student’s needs. My goal through these tutoring sessions is to instill in my students understanding of the various courses taught and a genuine liking towards the courses and learning in general. Let's work together to achieve your academic goals!</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Reem, and I’m a Rhodes College graduate. I majored in Anthropology/Sociology and minored in English literature. After graduating in 2018, I decided to get my M.A. at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon. My degree is in Sociology with a focus in education and medical sociology. My love for education started very early on as a 15-year-old who wanted to make a small difference for students struggling in school. Through my school’s services, I found that I had the patience and passion to eventually become an educator in my professional life. After graduating from AUB, I got my first teaching job at Hutchison school, and am currently working as an elementary teacher at Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal School. This year will be my fourth year serving the private school sector in Memphis. While studying abroad, I continued my tutoring services to a variety of ages. These ages ranged from middle school to college students. My tutoring strengths include English (all subjects), social sciences, history, college mentoring/essays, organizational/time management skills, and Praxis. My scores on the reading and writing portions of the Praxis exam fall in the 98th percentile. You can trust that I have the tools and strategies you need when it comes to your writing goals!</image:caption>

I’m currently pursuing a Master's degree in Pharmacology, and I’m excited to be working for The Tutors! Back in high school, I actually came to The Tutors for test prep, and I was able to achieve a 35 on the ACT. This did not happen overnight, and I am very familiar with the effort and strategy that goes into achieving your goals. Starting with my own experience, I have successfully helped students navigate the complexities of the ACT and SAT, offering personalized strategies and insights that cater to individual learning styles. I also have experience providing interactive STEM lessons to students of many age ranges throughout his time at Vanderbilt. I’m passionate about the intersection of science and medicine, with a particular interest in computational neuroscience and the study of neural circuits. Outside of my academic pursuits, I love active hobbies such as rock climbing and pickleball with friends. I’m also a content creator and voice actor, blending creativity with discipline. I am always mindful of having a balanced, healthy lifestyle, and I hope to pass that on to my students.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Kayhan Mirza, and I was born and raised in Memphis. After graduating from MUS in 2019, I attended the University of Alabama, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Spanish. This past year, I obtained a Master of Science in Pharmacology at UTHSC. I am currently applying to medical school and working in the research department of Semmes-Murphy. I scored in the 99 th and 92 nd percentile in my ACT and MCAT, respectively. I did not achieve those scores the first time I took the tests, so I am familiar with what constitutes a successful test-taker. I believe any student can reach their goal, no matter what diagnostic score they start with. Developing a strong study plan, implementing the right strategies, and targeting weak areas are key to scoring well. I look forward to sharing my extensive experience in content review, strategy, and any test-related topics with all my students. Outside of school, sports and fitness are my biggest passions. Growing up, I played competitive soccer for club and school, and I continue to play for fun when possible. I consider myself a sports guru; I love watching football, basketball, soccer, tennis, and baseball. My favorite teams include the Memphis Grizzlies, Tennessee Titans, Real Madrid, and any Alabama-related sports teams. Music is another strong passion of mine. In college, I learned how to play the electric guitar and quickly fell in love with it. Jamming or playing with other musicians is one of the best feelings in the world. I love listening to all music genres, such as rap, pop, and funk, but classic blues rock is my favorite genre.</image:caption>
